Coleridge Drops Bees 53-37 In Conference Play
The Bloomfield Bees had a lot of difficulty putting points on the board against Coleridge in a 53-37 defeat. The Bees only shot 26% on the night.
Jared Lauck led the Bees in scoring with 13 points, followed by Justin Cunningham with 10, Nick Nipp 8, Isaac Mertens 4 and Ethan Olander 2. Nick Nipp had 2 assists and Brett Hop-kins had 1.
Besides high scoring, Lauck also led the Bees in rebounds with 6, followed by Justin Cunningham with 5, Justin Jindra 4, Curtis Boschult and Andrew Sternberg 3, Isaac Mertens and Nick Nipp 2 and Ethan Olander had 1. An-drew Sternberg had the Bees only blocked shot on the night.
Ethan Olander, Justin Cunningham and Isaac Mertens led the Bees in steals with 3 while Nick Nipp and Jared Lauck had 2 and Justin Jindra one.

Bloomfield JV Boys Defeat Coleridge
In their first game of the 2007-2008 season, the junior varsity boys basketball team defeated Coleridge by a score of 31 to 16. Each of the players contributed positively in various aspects of the game to provide the victory. Scoring and playing for the young Bees were: Curtis Boschult (10 pts.), Brett Hopkins (8 pts.), Isaac Mertens (6 pts.), Colton Wilson (4 pts.), William Yunker (2 pts.), Brady Surface (1 pt.), Tyler Abbenhaus, Wayne Bruegman, Jesse White, Justin Jindra, Morgan Kauth, Ben Skroch and Tanner Schumacher.
Next action for the JVs will be Friday, December 7th at Winside and Saturday, December 8th at Niobrara.

Cold Shooting Dooms Bees In Loss To Winside
The Bees shot just over 20% from the field and with the poor shooting, were unable to muster up the offense to defeat Winside. Their defensive play was good, as they held Winside to 44points, but were only able to put 35 of their own up in the loss.
Justin Cunningham led the Bees in scoring with 15 points, followed by Jared Lauck with 9, Nick Mertens 6, Brett Hopkins 3 and Nick Nipp 2.
Cunningham was also the Bees leading rebounder, pulling down 6, followed by Jared Lauck and Nick Mertens with 5, Nick Nipp 4, Ethan Olander 3, Andrew Sternberg and Justin Jindra 2 each and Isaac Mertens had 1.
The Bees had 15 steals on the night, with Ethan Olander and Nick Nipp leading with 3, Justin Jindra and Curtis Boschult had 2 and 1 each to Nick Mertens, Justin Cunningham, Jared Lauck, Andrew Sternberg and Brett Hopkins.
Nick Mertens had 5 assists, while Brett Hopkins had 2 and Isaac Mertens had 1. Justin Cunningham had 2 blocks for the Bees and Justin Jindra had 1.

JV Boys Win at Winside
The Junior Varsity boys basketball team defeated Winside by a score of 33 to 12. Pressure defense, a great transition game and great free throw shooting helped garner the victory. As in the first game of the season, positive contributions were made by each of the players.
Scoring and playing were: Isaac Mertens (8 pts.), Curtis Boschult (6 pts.), Wayne Bruegman (4 pts.), Colton Wilson (3 pts.), Tyler Abbenhaus (2 pts.), Justin Jindra (2 pts.), Morgan Kauth (2 pts.), Brady Surface (2 pts.), Brett Hopkins (2 pts.), Tanner Schumacher (2 pts.), Takumi Furuki, Jesse White, William Yunker, and Ben Skroch.

Bees Defeat Wynot 54-29 For Season’s First Win
Bloomfield exploded for 17 first quarter points while holding Wynot to just 9 to get a good start on the game. The second quarter of play was even better for the Bees as they put in 16 points and held the Blue Devils to 4 to lead 33-13 at the end of the first half of play.
The second half saw the Bees cool down some, but still outscored Wynot 9-4 in the third quarter. With both teams matching each other with 12 points, the outcome ended at 54-29 in favor of the Bees.
Leading the Bees offensively was Nick Nipp with 19 points, followed by Jared Lauck with 10, Nick Mertens 7, Andrew Sternberg 6, Ethan Olander 5, Justin Cunningham 4, Isaac Mertens 2 and Brett Hopkins 1.
Justin Cunningham led in assists on the night as he dished out 5, followed by Nick Mertens with 4, Ethan Olander 2 and 1 each to Brett Hopkins, Andrew Sternberg and Justin Jindra.
Nick Nipp led in rebounding with 7, followed by Justin Cunningham at 5, Ethan Olander 6, Andrew Sternberg 5, Nick Mertens, Justin Jindra and Jared Lauck had 2, and Curtis Boschult and Isaac Mertens each had 1.
Nick Nipp was playing some very good defense, as he stole 5 balls from Wynot, followed by Andrew Sternberg and Nick Mertens with 2 and 1 each to Jared Lauck and Justin Cunningham.
Andrew Sternberg had 3 blocked shots and Justin Cunningham and Jared Lauck each had 1.

JV Boys 3 and 0 on Season
In their first home game of the season, the junior varsity boys basketball team defeated Wynot by a score of 51 to 37 putting them at 3 and 0 on the season.
Excellent defense along with a very good transition game provided the young Bees with the victory. Scoring and playing were: Curtis Boschult (15 pts.), Isaac Mertens (12 pts.), Ben Skroch (5 pts.), Brady Surface (4 pts.), Justin Jindra (4 pts.), Colton Wilson (3 pts.), Tyler Abbenhaus (2 pts.), Tanner Schumacher (2 pts.), Brett Hopkins (2 pts.), Jesse White (2 pts.), Wayne Bruegman, Takumi Furuki, Morgan Kauth and William Yunker.

Bees Have Good Game, But Lose Out To Lynch
65-57 In Outing

The Bloomfield Bees hosted Lynch last Saturday night, and though they put together a good game, they were still outscored by the Lynch team 65-57.
Lynch was able to outscore the Bees in the opening quarter of play 15-11 and then kept the Bees at bay somewhat in the second quarter with a 17-12 scoring margin. As the game entered half-time, Lynch held a 32-23 lead over the Bees that made a big hurdle heading into the second half.
Bloomfield tried to make their move in the third quarter of play as they out-scored Lynch 13-12. Narrowing the lead by one point, things heated up in the final quarter of play with each team pouring in 21 points and the game ending with a 65-57 margin in favor of Lynch.
Bloomfield was led offensively by Nick Mertens as he poured in 24 points, followed by Nick Nipp and Justin Cunningham with 8 each, Isaac Mertens 6,Curtis Boschult 4, Justin Jindra 3 and Ethan Olander and Jared Lauck 2 each.
In the assists department, Nick Nipp led the team with 3 followed by Justin Jindra, Justin Cunningham with 2 each, Nick Mertens, Ethan Olander, Curtis Boschult and Isaac Mertens each adding one.
The Bees leading rebounder was Justin Cunningham, who pulled down 9 errant shots, followed by Justin Jindra with 7, Nick Mertens 5, Nick Nipp, Curtis Boschult and Jared Lauck with 4, Ethan Olander and Brett Hopkins had 2.
Andrew Sternberg had 2 blocked shots and Justin Jindra had 1.

JV Boys Defeat Lynch
The junior varsity boys basketball team defeated Lynch by a score of 68 to 14 on the Bees’ home court on Saturday, December 15th. Excellent team defense and a great transition game provided the margin of victory.
Scoring and playing were: Wayne Bruegman (13 pts.), Curtis Boschult (11 pts.), Justin Jindra (8 pts.), Ben Skroch (6 pts.), Tanner Schumacher (6 pts.), Brady Surface (5 pts.), Tyler Abbenhaus (4 pts.), Isaac Mertens (4 pts.), Colton Wilson (4 pts.), Brett Hopkins (4 pts.), Takumi Furuki (3 pts.), William Yunker, Morgan Kauth and Jesse White.

Bees Garner 55-46 Victory over Niobrara

The Bloomfield Bees traveled to Niobrara to take on the Lions recently and returned home with a 55-46 victory. Bloomfield trailed Niobrara 16-11 after the first quarter of play, before they were able to outscore the Lions 18-8 in the second quarter and then took a 29-24 lead at the end of the half. Bloomfield was able to continue pouring it on in the third quarter as they outscored Niobrara 15-8 and led 44-32 heading into the final period play. Niobrara then made their run, outscoring Bloomfield 14-11, but it wasn't enough, as Bloomfield held on for the 55-46 victory. The Bees were led offensively by Jared Lauck with 20 points, followed by Nick Nipp with 17, Justin Cunningham 8, Nick Mertens 6 and Justin Jindra with 4. Three Bees shared rebounding honors with 7 each, Justin Jindra, Jared Lauck, and Nick Nipp; followed by Justin Cunningham with 5, Mick Mertens 3 and 2 each to Andrew Sternberg and Ben Skroch and Ethan Olander had 1.Nick Nipp led the team in steals with 5, followed by Jared Lauck with 3, Justin Jindra and Justin Cunningham 2 each and 1 each to Nick Mertens and Andrew Sternberg. Justin Jindra also had 3 blocked shots on the night. Jindra and Nick Mertens shared the assists lead with 4, while Nick Nipp has 2 and 1 each to Justin Cunningham, Jared Lauck and Brett Hopkins.

JV Boys Defeat Niobrara

The junior varsity boys basketball team defeated Niobrara by a score of 48 to 34 on Monday, December 17th at Niobrara. Positive contributions were made by all players at various times during the game, but overall execution was not as sharp as in previous games. The junior varsity boy's record stand and 5 and 0 heading into the holiday break. Scoring and playing for the Bees in this game are as follows: Curtis Boschult-9, Isaac Mertens-8, Justin Jindra-6, Colton Wilson-4, Brett Hopkins-4, Jesse White-3, Tyler Abbenhaus-2, Wayne Bruegman-2, Morgan Kauth-2, Brady Surface-2, William Yunker-2, Ben Skroch-2, Tanner Schumacher-2, Takumi Faruki. The next game for the JV boys is at Omaha Nation on January 4, 2008.

Allen Tips Bees in Conference Play 46-43

Things got off pretty slowly for both teams in the first quarter of play before the teams picked it up, but the Bloomfield Bees couldn't put enough points up to defeat Allen, losing 46-43. Allen held the scoring edge in the first quarter of play, 6-4. Bloomfield then put in 16 points while holding Allen to 13 and led 20-19 at the half. The Bees still outscored Allen in the third quarter 15-13, but weren't able to put a big enough margin on them heading into the final quarter. Allen was very tough in the fourth quarter, as they held the Bees to just 8 points while putting up 14 of their own to take the 46-43 victory. Leading the Bees on offense was Jared Lauck with 11 points, followed by Nick Nipp with 10, Nick Mertens and Justin Cunningham 9 each and Justin Jindra added 4. The Bees leading rebounder was Jared Lauck with 6, while Justin Cunningham had 5, Justin Jindra 4, Nick Mertens 2 and Brett Hopkins 1. Justin Jindra led in steals with 3; while 1 each went to Brett Hopkins, Jared Lauck, Justin Cunningham, Nick Nipp and Nick Mertens. Brett Hopkins led the team in assists with 5, while Nick Mertens had 4, Justin Jindra 3 and Jared Lauck and Justin Cunningham each had 1. The Bees will be out of action until January 4th when they travel to Omaha Nation.

Omaha Nation Pummels Bees 87-51 To Remain Undefeated
The Bloomfield Bees had a long trip on Friday night to take on undefeated Omaha Nation and did all they could, but were soundly defeated 87-51.
Omaha Nation came out hitting on all cylinders as they posted 25 points to the Bees 6. Things did not slow down much in the second quarter either, as they again outscored Bloomfield 17-12 and led 42-18 at the half.
The Bees were again outscored in the third quarter 17-12 and trailed 59-30 heading into the final quarter of play. Bloomfield just couldn’t match Omaha Nation as they were again out-scored 28-21, falling 87-51.
Leading Bloomfield on offense was Nick Mertens with 16 points, followed by Ethan Olander with 12, Justin Cunningham with 5, Andrew Sternberg and Isaac Mertens 4 each, Brett Hopkins and Jared Lauck had 3, and Justin Jindra and Nick Nipp each added 2.
Ben Skroch, Brett Hopkins, Justin Cunningham and Ethan Olander each had 2 assists and Justin Jindra and Nick Nipp had 1 apiece.

JV Boys Suffer First Loss at Omaha Nation

The boys junior varsity basketball team played at Macy Omaha Nation on Friday, January 4 and suffered its first loss of the season by a score of 44 to 29. A slow start by the young Bees plus an excellent perimeter shooting game by the Omaha Nation team provided the margin in the loss. Scoring and playing in this game were: Isaac Mertens-8 pts.,Tyler Abbenhaus-7 pts., Brett Hopkins-6 pts., Justin Jindra-2 pts., Brady Surface-2 pts., William Yunker-2 pts., Ben Skroch-2 pts., Wayne Bruegman, Curtis Boschult, Takumi Furuki, Jesse White, Colton Wilson, Morgan Kauth, and Tanner Schumacher.

Bees Notch 60-50 Victory Over Rock County
The Bees were playing catch up throughout the game Saturday night when they hosted Rock County, but they used a big fourth quarter to pull out the 60-50 victory.
Rock County held a slim 11-8 lead after the first quarter of play and had it narrowed to 25-23 at the end of the first half.
Rock County and the Bees both notched 17 points in the third quarter and never changed the lead as Rock County led 42-40 heading into the final period of play.
Bloomfield exploded for 20 points, while holding Rock County to 8 to post the 60-50 victory.
Bloomfield was led on offense by Jared Lauck with 19 points followed by Justin Cunningham with 12, Nick Nipp 14, Andrew Sternberg 6, Ethan Olander 5 and 2 each to Isaac Mertens and Justin Jindra.

On Saturday evening, January 5, the Bees' team hosted Rock County and got off to a great start defensively holding Rock County to 2 point in the first half of play while scoring 19 themselves. The final score was Bloomfield 32 and Rock County 19. The record for the JV Boys stand at 6 wins and 1 loss. Scoring and playing in this game were Isaac Mertens-10 pts., Tyler Abbenhaus-6 pts., Colton Wilson-3 pts., Takumi Furuki-2 pts., Jesse White-2 pts., Morgan Kauth-2 pts., Brett Hopkins-2 pts., William Yunker-2 pts., Ben Skroch-2 pts., Curtis Boschult and Brady Surface.

Bees Notch 40-35 Victory Over Newcastle In
Conference Play

The Bloomfield Bees jumped out early and held on for a 40-35 victory over Newcastle in another conference matchup. Bloomfield outscored Newcastle 14-5 after the first quarter of play and found the role reversed in the second quarter as Newcastle outscored them 17-6 in the second quarter and led 22-20 at the half.The third quarter of play was a defensive struggle, as the Bees were able to knot the score up at 26 apiece heading into the fourth and deciding quarter.During the fourth quarter, Bloomfield was able to keep Newcastle in check with 9 points while adding 14 of their own for the 40-35 victory.The offense was led by Nick Mertens and Nick Nipp with 11 points each, while Justin Cunningham had 8, Jared Lauck 6, Justin Jindra 2 and 1 each to Brett Hopkins and Ethan Olander. Leading the Bees in rebounds was Jared Lauck with 6, followed by Justin Cunningham with 5, Justin Jindra 4, Nick Mertens 2 and Andrew Sternberg, Isaac Mertens and Brett Hopkins 1 apiece. Bees Fall To Osmond In Close Game 61-57
After a see-saw battle, the Bloomfield Bees were unable to overtake Osmond and fell to them 61-57.Bloomfield held a slim 14-13 lead after the first quarter and were able to hold the lead as they outscored Osmond 13-12 to lead 27-25 at the half.The tide turned in the third quarter, when Osmond held a 17-15 scoring edge and knotted the score at 42 heading into the final quarter of play. JV Boys Defeat Osmond 47-32

On Tuesday, January 15 the JV boys defeated the Osmond JVs at Osmond by a score of 47 to 32. The boys got off to a great start and continued their solid play through the second quarter. During the third and fourth quarters scoring was evenly matched. Scoring and playing for the young Bees were: Isaac Mertens (17), Tyler Abbenhaus (6), Ben Skroch (5), Curtis Boschult (4), Colton Wilson (3), William Yunker (3), Takumi Furuki (2), Morgan Kauth (2), Brady Surface (2), Brett Hopkins (2), Justin Jindra (1), Jesse White, Mickey Doerr, Nate Marvin, and Tanner Schumacher.

Bees Run Into Buzz Saw Against Hartington, Lose 60-39
The Bees found themselves outmatched from the beginning when they played Hartington, as they fell behind 10-4 after the first quarter of play. They were able to outscore Hartington 9-8 in the second quarter and trailed 18-13 at the half. The third quarter was the Bees undoing, as they were outscored by Hartington 19-7 and trailed 37-20 heading into the final quarter. The Bees made a valiant run, but were still outscored by Hartington 23-19 as they fell 60-39. Leading the Bees on offense was Nick Mertens with 15 points, followed by Jared Lauck with 9, Isaac Mertens 5, Justin Cunningham and Ethan Olander had 3, Andrew Sternberg and Nick Nipp had 2.Leading rebounder for the Bees was Jared Lauck with 6, followed by Ethan Olander with 5, Andrew Sternberg and Nick Mertens 4 each, Justin Jindra 3, Justin Cunningham 2 and Nick Nipp and Will Yunker 1 each. JV Boys Defeat Hartington 51-34

On Friday, January 18, the junior varsity boys hosted Hartington and defeated them by a score of 51 to 34. Solid play throughout the game provided the boys with their eighth victory of the season against one defeat.
Scoring and playing for the junior varsity team were: Isaac Mertens (12), Tyler Abbenhaus (8), Curtis Boschult (7), Brady Surface (5), Ben Skroch (5), Justin Jindra (4), Colton Wilson (3), Wayne Bruegman (2), Brett Hopkins (2), Tanner Schumacher (2), Mickey Doerr (1), Takumi Furuki, Jesse White, Morgan Kauth, Nate Marvin, and William Yunker.

Bees Open Tri-Valley Tourney With 48-45 Victory
The Bloomfield Bees were matched up against Alcester-Hudson at Viborg in the opening round of play in the South Dakota Tri-Valley Tournament. They had a tough go all the way through, but held on for a 48-45 victory and advanced deeper into the tourney. Bloomfield held a slim 13-12 lead after the first quarter of play only to have Alcester outscore them 17-13 in the second quarter to take a 29-26 lead at the half. The third quarter found things very evenly matched as each team scored 11 points and made the fourth quarter a very important one. With both teams playing good defense, Bloomfield was able to outscore Alcester 11-5. The Bees tough defense allowed Alcester only 5 points, all on free throws. This gave the Bees their 48-45 victory and moved them further into the tournament. Viborg Knocks Bees Into Consolation Bracket Of Tourney
Viborg came out strong both offensively and defensively and put the Bees into a big hold early, winning by a score of 61-38. The loss bumped the Bees into the consolation game of the tournament. Bloomfield was outscored 14-6 in the first quarter by Viborg and then again in the second quarter 14-5 to trail 28-11 at the half. Bloomfield made a run in the third quarter, but were still outscored 15-14 and once again in the fourth quarter 18-13 to end up losing 61-38.
Nick Nipp led the Bees in scoring with 9 points, while Andrew Sternberg added 8, Justin Cunningham and Nick Mertens had 6, Brett Hopkins 3 and Isaac Mertens, Curtis Boschult and Ethan Olander had 2. Nick Nipp led in assists also, as he had 2, while Tyler Abbenhaus, Nick Mertens, Ethan Olander, Justin Cunningham, Justin Jindra and Brett Hopkins all had 1.

Centerville Drops Bees 58-43 In Consolation Game
Bloomfield was paired up with Centerville in the consolation round of the Tri-Valley Tournament and were defeated 58-43 to knock them from action.The Bees started out very cold shooting and found themselves trailing 14-3 after the first quarter. They improved in the second quarter, scoring 10 points, but Centerville also improved and outscored them 16-10 to lead 30-13 at the half.
Centerville still was able to keep outscoring Bloomfield in the third quarter 16-9 and extended their lead to 46-22 before Bloomfield caught fire in the fourth quarter and pumped in 21 points to their 12, but it was too late as they were defeated 58-43. Bloomfield was led offensively by Nick Mertens and Jared Lauck with 11 points followed by Ethan Olander with 8, Brett Hopkins, Isaac Mertens and Justin Cunningham 3, Justin Jindra and Andrew Sternberg 2. Ethan Olander and Jared Lauck shared rebounding honors with 5, followed by Justin Jindra at 4, Justin Cunningham 3, Nick Mertens and Isaac Mertens had 2 and Andrew Sternberg and Ben Skroch had 1. Bees Nip Coleridge 43-38 In Conference Action
The Bloomfield Bees traveled to Coleridge on January 28th for a Lewis & Clark Conference matchup with Coleridge and returned home with a 43-38 victory. Bloomfield and Coleridge were tied up at 9 in what turned out to be a see-saw game. The Bees pulled ahead of Coleridge 18-12 at the end of the first half of play. In the second quarter, each team put in ten points and the scoring margin remained the same. Both teams caught fire in the fourth quarter of play with Coleridge outscoring Bloomfield 16-15, but they couldn’t overcome the Bees as they lost 43-38. Bloomfield was led on offense by Nick Mertens with 15, followed by Jared Lauck with 11, Nick Nipp 7, Justin Cunningham 6, and Ethan Olander 4. Leading rebounder for the Bees was Ethan Olander with 10, followed by Jared Lauck with 8, Justin Cunningham and Nick Mertens 4 each, Nick Nipp 2, Justin Jindra 3 and Isaac Mertens with 1. Justin Jindra recorded the only blocked shot for the Bees.Jared Lauck was tough defensively, as he had 6 steals on the night, while Justin Jindra and Nick Mertens had 3 each and Ethan Olander had 2. In assists, Justin Cunningham dished out 3 and 1 each went to Jared Lauck, Justin Jindra, Nick Nipp and Ethan Olander.

JV Boys Defeat Coleridge
In the first round of the Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament both the junior varsity and varsity teams played. Therefore, on Monday, January 28th the teams traveled to Coleridge with the junior varsity team playing the Coleridge junior varsity. The young Bees defeated Coleridge by a score of 30 to 17. Scoring was balanced on the offensive end and the defense was strong throughout; holding Coleridge scoreless in the second quarter and to single digits in the other three quarters.
Scoring and playing for the junior varsity team were: Curtis Boschult (5 pts.), Jesse White (5 pts.), Tyler Abbenhaus (4 pts.), Brady Surface (4 pts.), Isaac Mertens (3 pts.), Brett Hopkins (3 pts.), Wayne Bruegman (2 pts.), Justin Jindra (2 pts.), Ben Skroch (2 pts.), Takumi Furuki, Colton Wilson, Mickey Doerr, Morgan Kauth, Nate Marvin, William Yunker, and Tanner Schumacher.
The JV boys’ record stands at 9 wins and 1 loss. The next game is at Verdigre on February 5th.

Bees Are Pounded By Wakefield 59-30
The Bees traveled to Hartington where they were paired up with Wakefield, one of the better teams in the area and were sent home with a 59-30 loss. Wakefield outscored the Bees 13-9 in the first quarter, but that was the end of the Bees scoring for the first half, as they were shut out in the second quarter while Wakefield added 14 and trailed 27-9 at the half. Things didn’t get much better for the Bees in the third quarter, as they were again outscored 14-6 and trailed 41-15 after three quarters. Wakefield still outscored the Bees in the fourth quarter of action 18-15 as they posted a big 59-30 victory over the Bees. Jared Lauck led the Bees in scoring with 8 points, while Justin Jindra and Nick Nipp added 4, Isaac Mertens, Justin Cunningham and Curtis Boschult had 3, Andrew Sternberg and Tyler Abbenhaus 2 and Ethan Olander had 1. The Bees leading rebounder was Ethan Olander with 6, while Jared Lauck and Justin Cunningham had 5, Nick Nipp 3, Nick Mertens, Justin Jindra, Andrew Sternberg and Ben Skroch had 2 and Brett Hopkins had 1.
Those recording a steal each were Jared Lauck, Justin Jindra, Justin Cunningham and Tyler Abbenhaus. Nick Nipp, Justin Cunningham, Justin Jindra and Ben Skroch each had a blocked shot. Nick Mertens and Brett Hopkins had 2 assists and Nick Nipp and Jared Lauck had 1.

JB Boys Defeat Newcastle
On Monday, February 4th, Bloomfield’s Junior Varsity team hosted Newcastle and defeated them by a score of 32 to 29. The junior varsity team played a solid first half and as a result held a 25 to 9 halftime score. Poor shooting and turnovers plagued the locals in the third quarter and as a result only 1 point was scored. This provided motivation for Newcastle and they came within two points late in the game. However, the young Bees held in there and finished with the 3-point victory.

Verdigre Defeats Bees 63-46
The Bloomfield Bees had a tough outing at Verdigre when they were defeated by the Eagles 63-46.
The Bees ended up trailing Verdigre 17-12 after the first quarter and then found themselves still behind at the half 33-27. Things still remained close in the third quarter, but Verdigre continued to outscore Bloomfield 18-15 to go into the final quarter with a 51-42 lead. The Bees were able to only muster 4 points in the final quarter, while Verdigre added another 12 for the 63-46 victory over Bloomfield. Jared Lauck led the Bees scoring with 12 points, followed by Nick Mertens with 10, Nick Nipp 8, Justin Cunningham 6, Andrew Sternberg 4, Isaac Mertens and Brett Hopkins 2 and 1 each to Tyler Abbenhaus and Ethan Olander.

Freshman & Upper Grades JV Boys Basketball Teams Defeat Verdigre
Freshman Game

The boys’ reserves basketball game held at Verdigre on Tuesday, January 5th was divided into a freshman game and an upper grade level junior varsity game. The freshman game was highly contested in the first half of play with Bloomfield holding a 14 to 10 edge. The freshman players got things going in the second half and came away with a 43 to 27 victory. Scoring and playing were: Wayne Bruegman (8), Justin Jindra (8), Colton Wilson (8), Brady Surface (9), Brett Hopkins (8), Tanner Schumacher (2) and Takumi Furuki.
Upper Grades Game
Following the freshman game, the upper grade’s junior varsity defeated Verdigre by a score of 42 to 32. After a close first half, the JVs pulled away in the third and fourth quarters to secure the victory. Scoring and playing in this game were: Isaac Mertens (15), Tyler Abbenhaus (9), Curtis Boschult (6), Ben Skroch (6), Morgan Kauth (4), Jesse White (2), Takumi Furuki, Mickey Doerr, and William Yunker.

Currently the freshman only team is 1 and 0 and the junior varsity team is 11 Wins and 1 loss.

Bees Go Cold In 45-29 Loss To Allen
The Bloomfield Bees totally lost their shooting touch when they hosted Allen, as they only shot 26% from the field. Allen took advantage of the Bees shooting woes as they left with a 45-29 victory. Allen started out slowly, but out-scored the Bees 7-4 in the first quarter, and then found the Bees catching fire in the second quarter to outscore Allen 17-12 to take a 21-19 lead at the half.
The second half was the Bees undoing, as they were only able to score 4 points in each of the next two quarters while Allen scored 12 and 14 respectively to defeat the Bees 45-29. Nick Nipp led the Bees scoring with 10 points, followed by Ethan Olander with 7, Justin Cunningham 6, Jared Lauck 4 and Nick Mertens 2. Justin Cunningham held rebounding honors with 9, while Nick Mertens and Ethan Olander each had 7, Jared Lauck 4, Nick Nipp and Justin Jindra 2 and Brett Hopkins 1. Nick Mertens and Justin Cunningham each had 2 steals and Nick Nipp had 1. Justin Jindra and Justin Cunningham each recorded a blocked shot. Ethan Olander and Justin Cunningham dished out 2 assists and Nick Nipp and Nick Mertens each had 1.

Bees Find Shooting Touch In Victory Over Elkhorn Valley
The Bloomfield Bees finally found their shooting touch in a big victory over Elkhorn Valley. Bloomfield put up 81 points, while holding Elkhorn Valley to 65 for the victory. The Bees jumped out to a big 23-11 lead after the first quarter of play and then outscored Elkhorn Valley 18-16 to lead 41-27 at the half. Bloomfield didn’t let up in the second half either, as they were able to outscore the Falcons 17-12 in the third quarter before Elkhorn Valley put up 26 points to the Bees 23 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough, as the Bees garnered a 81-65 victory.
The Bees offense was led by Nick Nipp as he pumped in 30 points, while Justin Cunningham added 13, Andrew Sternberg and Nick Mertens 10 each, Jared Lauck 8 and Brett Hopkins and Ethan Olander each had 5. Justin Cunningham led the team in rebounds with 9, while Andrew Sternberg had 8, Nick Mertens 7, Jared Lauck and Nick Nipp 5, Ethan Olander and Justin Jindra 3 and Isaac Mertens and Brett Hopkins each had 1. Nick Nipp led in steals with 3, while Nick Mertens, Justin Jindra and Jared Lauck each had 1. Jared Lauck and Nick Nipp each had 2 blocked shots and Andrew Sternberg had 1. Nick Mertens and Nick Nipp led in assists with 3, while Jared Lauck, Justin Jindra, Justin Cunningham and Ethan Olander each had 2 and Andrew Sternberg added 1.

JV Boys Defeat Tilden Elkhorn Valley
On Friday evening, January 8th, the junior varsity team traveled to Tilden and played against the Elkhorn Valley Falcons. During the first quarter, the young Bees forced many Falcon turnovers, therefore, outscoring them 19 to 9. Bloomfield had a 10 to 7 advantage in the second quarter, thus leading at halftime 29 to 16. The JVs had a more difficult time scoring during the third quarter – 6 points, but played some great defense holding Elkhorn Valley to 2 points. During the fourth quarter, the opponent outscored the Bees 10 to 7 and thus the final score was Bees 42, Tilden Elkhorn Valley 28. The junior varsity record stands at 12 wins and 1 loss.

Bees Close Regular Season Out With 55-48 Victory Over Wausa
The Bloomfield Bees got them selves prepared to head into sub-district play with a 55-48 victory over neighboring Wausa to close out their regular basketball season. The game started out slowly, with Bloomfield holding a slim 10-9 lead after the first quarter. The Bees then pumped in 17 points while holding Wausa to 10 to hold a 27-19 lead at the half. Things stayed close in the third quarter, with both teams scoring 11 heading into the final quarter with Wausa then making their move, out-scoring the Bees 18-14, but Bloomfield held on for the 55-48 victory. Nick Mertens led the offense as he scored 24 points, while Nick Nipp added 9, Justin Cunningham and Jared Lauck 7, Isaac Mertens 6 and Andrew Sternberg 2. Justin Jindra and Nick Nipp held re-bounding honors with 7 each, while Nick Mertens had 6, Justin Cunningham 4, Isaac Mertens and Jared Lauck 3 each, Andrew Sternberg 2 and Ethan Olander had 1. Justin Cunningham was tough defensively, as he had 7 steals on the night, while Jared Lauck had 3, Isaac Mertens 2 and 1 each to Ethan Olander and Justin Jindra. Andrew Sternberg recorded 2 blocked shots. Justin Cunningham also dished out 5 assists, while Justin Jindra added 4, Nick Mertens 3, Andrew Sternberg 2 and Isaac Mertens 1.

Stuart Ends Bees Season In District Action
The Bees had to travel to O’Neill for their sub-district tournament and were paired up with Stuart last Tuesday night. The Bees fell behind early and were never able to catch up in the 58-37 loss.
The first quarter really was the Bees undoing, as they were outscored 18-4 and then came back to put up 10 points while holding Stuart to 9 to trail 27-14 at the half. The local boys then had a good third quarter as they scored 14 points while holding Stuart to 12 and trailed 39-28 going into the final quarter of play. Stuart put up a big fourth quarter to put the Bees away, outscoring them 19-9 and winning the game 58-37. Leading the Bees offense was Jared Lauck with 12 points, while Justin Cunningham added 9 points, Nick Nipp 6, Nick Mertens 4 and 2 each to An-drew Sternberg and Ethan Olander. The loss puts an end to the Bees season.
