On Wednesday, April 9, 2008, six students in the nursing program at Mount Marty College who are taking a class taught by Shelly Luger shared activities with elementary students about the topic of nutrition. This activity-centered program is one facet of the overall health and wellness curriculum at Bloomfield Schools.
The three activity centers in which students were participants were: a technology center whereby students utilized computers integrating calorie intake with food groups; a gross motor skill center that incorporated tossing small models of food into the appropriate food group baskets; and a fine motor skills center where students cut and pasted foods on a model of the food pyramid.
All elementary students enjoyed the hands-on activities. Thanks are extended to Shelly Luger and the Mount Marty students for their time and effort in coordinating, planning, and implementing this learning experience for the students at Bloomfield Elementary School.
