On April 6-8, 2008 the Bloomfield FCCLA Chapter attended the 2008 State Leadership Conference. The members of our chapter were very involved in this year’s SLC. First of all we would like to recognize and congratulate Sarah Oltjenbruns for being elected as the 2008-2009 FCCLA State Secretary. In this position she will be attending the National Leadership Meeting in July in Orlando, Florida. We also had two groups competing in STAR at state. STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) are competitive events in which members are recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation. Brady Surface and Colton Wilson for receiving a gold medal for their STAR project in Illustrated talk. The Parliamentary Procedure team consisting of Leanna Cayler, Ali Gieselman, Lynndsy Hauger, Mary Lingenfelter, Grace Trenhaile, and Emma Wagner qualified for the championship round and received a silver metal. Ali also placed 7th and Lynndsy placed 10th in the parliamentary procedure test competition. There were also the 26 members from Bloomfield recognized at state for completing all five Power of One modules. These members will also be recognized at the National Leadership meeting in July. Power of One helps students find and use their personal power. Members set their own goals, work to achieve them, and enjoy the results. The skills members learn in Power of One help them now and in the future in school, with friends and family, in their future at college, and on the job. Finally, Mrs. Runyon was recognized for 5 years of service and also received an Advisor Committed to Excellence Award. Our chapter again was the best professionally dressed and we are very proud to have that as a reflection of our chapter. Again, congratulations to all and thanks to the community for all your support!
