FFA Food Science Team Places Second in State Competition
April 13, 2010
This past week, 48 members of the FFA Chapter from Bloomfield, Wausa and Niobrara attended the 82 Nebraska State FFA Convention. Attending members participated in several CDE and LSE contests, attended leadership conferences and business sessions. Four seniors also received their State Degrees. The chapter is very proud of their accomplishments.
The convention started with the parli-pro team of Ali Gieselman, Lynndsy Hauger, Hannah Seagren, Morgan Kauth, Tanner Schumacher, and Jonathan Carhart competing in the preliminaries of Senior Parliamentary procedure. They earned a siver award for their efforts.
On Thursday, Ali Gieselman and Lynndsy Hauger interviewed as a state finalist in their respective areas of proficiency competition. That evening Ali was named second place recipient in Diversified Horticulture and received third place in Home and Community Improvement. Lynndsy was named third place winner in Floriculture. This was a major accomplishment considering they were competing with all FFA members in Nebraska.
Thursday and Friday each member competed in at least one CDE contest experiencing many successes. Receiving a ribbon in state competition is a major accomplishment since only the top 25% of participants receives ribbons. Most of the teams participating had to place in the top 25% in their district competition to earn the opportunity to even participate in state contests.
The Food Science team of Ali Gieselman, Lynndsy Hauger, Whitney Goeden and Jonanthan Carhart placed 2nd in state competition receiving a plaque, purple ribbon and each received a silver medal. Individually Ali received a purple placing 5th individually, Lynndsy received a blue, and Whitney received a white ribbon. This is the third time in the past five years that Bloomfield’s team has placed in the top three in this contest.
The chapter had three teams competing in the Ag Science contest. The Bloomfield team placed 20th of 84 teams with a red team ribbon. Individually, Callen Koester placed 9th and Ty Alexander placed 14th of 333 participants. Each earned a purple ribbon. At the evening session Friday night, our chapter received a $750 transportation scholarship to National Convention from Farm Credit Services as a part of the program. We thank them for this contribution.
The session was completed with the awarding of State Degrees to Ali Gieselman, Lynndsy Hauger, Cody Allen, Morgan Kauth and over 400 other state FFA seniors . Less than 5% of all members receive this prestigious award. Congratulations seniors.
State convention finalized another successful year of competition by the Bloomfield chapter. Congratulations for all of the hard work and accomplishment throughout the 2009-10 school year. We will finish the years activities by selecting out new officers next week and celebrating our accomplishment with our banquet on April 25th.
