On Wednesday, January 18, 2012, the Bloomfield FCCLA Chapter traveled to Wayne State College for the FCCLA District 8 STAR Competition.  Bloomfield chapter members did a great job!  STAR (students taking action with recognition) gives FCCLA members the opportunity to speak out about issues affecting families and communities as well as opportunities for students to compete with projects in different areas of Family and Consumer Sciences education.  Bloomfield entered in 19 events and qualified in 7 events for state competition in April.  Only the top entry in a division can go on to state, so with all of the competition it isn’t an easy task! Receiving Top Gold and qualifying for state were Bobbie Green – Interior Design, Grace Carhart – Food Innovations, Kenna Fiedler/Lily Nagengast – Applied Technology, Christa Castle – Recycle & Redesign,  and Silas Oltjenbruns/Tyler Brown – Promote & Publicize FCCLA. Receiving Top Silver and qualifying for state were McGwire Mackeprang – Parliamentary Procedure Test, and Katie Miller – Career Investigation.  Receiving Gold Medals were Kylie Abbenhaus – Life Event Planning, Quinn O’Brien/Anthony Arroyos/Aaron Millikan – Stop the Violence, and Dominique Swanson/Ashley Fiedler – Community Service.  Receiving silver medals in Illustrated Talk were Autumn Luger, and Kristen Thompson/Laura Nagengast,  Gabi Mangmoradeth/Ann Hunhoff/Amber Bruegman – Focus On Children, Renae Kauth/Patience Teboe/Brendalyn Babcock, and Bobbie Green/Mariah Fehringer – Family Challenges, Abbie Luger/Brianna Barlow, Brandon Lawyer/Cody Beckman – Health & Wellness, and Andrew Klintworth/Jeff Bertschinger/Dilan Hingst – Promote & Publicize FCCLA.  Receiving bronze medals were Robyn Hynes, Berek Gray, Brett Klintworth, Jeremy Ohlfest/Conner Wilson, Brenden Johnson/Eric Abbenhaus, Cole Bruns/Weston Quezada, Austin Luger, Devin Johnson/Kaci Millikan, Alexis Hamm – Illustrated Talk, Jerick Graber – Interpersonal Communication, Wil Wagner, Hunter Muff – Parli Pro test,  and Cole Fiedler/Henry Hagge  - Applied Technology.  I would like to thank Caroline Oltjenbruns, Troy Reynolds, Quinn Nisely, and Sarah Oltjenbruns for helping judge and Sue Rohrer and Reann Risor for helping sponsor.  I’d also like to say a special thank you to Marlene and the bus crew for holding the bus route for our kids to get back and ride.  Also, thank you to Filipe and Dan for driving us.  I am so proud of our chapter and all of their hard work and am especially proud of their professional dress at this competition.  They are a great group of kids and should be congratulated!!
