Pop's Concert
January 24, 2012
Please come join the Bloomfield Music program for our Pop’s Concert at 7:30 PM on Tuesday February 7th. This concert will be filled with music ranging from the classic, “Carry On Wayward Son,” by the group Kansas, to today’s Katy Perry song, “Firework.” The students are particularly excited about this concert due to the selection of popular music and their own investment into what the concert will become. In the high school each student had to find a concert band or choral arrangement of two songs they would like to perform for this concert. After those were turned in, we listened to all the suggestions and made a vote as band or choir.
Rarely is anyone able to get a 100% vote towards something that they, as a group, would like to perform. There is one thing, however, the band unanimously agreed upon. We decided to do one modern song, one ‘what they consider’ “old” song, and one song from a movie. They have been working very hard and will provide great renditions of the arrangements they are showcasing.
The choir also struggled with getting a 100% vote, but were all leaning towards one idea. They have decided to do a girls’ piece, a guys’ piece and an ensemble piece. This is going to give them a chance to really show that each section of our choir can hold their own. This has also presented a greater challenge, for with fewer singers, comes greater responsibility to know your part really well. With their continued hard work they will show they taken on that challenge quite well.
The Jr. High also had some say in their selections although we did not have an opportunity to create an assignment out of it. Despite that, however, we still listened to some selections in order to get a feel for what they liked. Unlike the high school, the Jr. High is not doing anything from this decade. They should all be recognizable and enjoyable to audience.
Again, we are very excited to be providing this Pop’s Concert to the community. It is sure to be a joy for all in attendance. As always there will be a free will donation at the door. Please come support the music program and all we are striving to accomplish.
