2024 One-Acts

ONE ACTS PREPARING FOR THE 2024 PRODUCTION
Under the direction of Ms. Betsy Erickson with the assistance of Mr. Colton Gieselman.
Play Production, or One Acts, is one of the many Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA)-sanctioned activities. The purpose of One Acts is to create an understanding and appreciation by students of good dramatic literature and production. It is also to instruct students in acting and play production.
Bloomfield One Acts’ Fall 2024 production was “The Ninth Train” by Jim and Jane Jeffries. It is a play about a Jewish family during WWII that are trying to decide to stay together or split up and have a chance to save their children. Several great actors from grades 9 through 12 participated and made this serious play come to life.
Competition for the Play Production season is every November and December. Schools may select any one-act plays, provided that they contain no fewer than three characters. The plays must also stay between 15 and 30 minutes long. The timing begins with the first sound, action or on-stage lighting. The timing stops when the lights go out and/or the curtain closes.
Acting is the primary criterion for judging. Each actor is judged for elements like stage movement, blocking, interaction of characters, tempo, etc.
The second criterion for judging is Technical. The script may be judged on its theatrical value and suitability to the cast. Staging, costuming, lights, sound effects and the set are also considered.
The judges will designate individual performances that are deserving of a Superior rating, as well as provide constructive criticism for each participating school. The ranks are based on a scale of superior, excellent and good.
The students in Bloomfield One Acts are involved in many extracurricular and community activities. They do a really great job of managing their time, so that they can give 100% to each activity. We appreciate their sacrifice to make our school great!
